It's true, Tom baker stayed on Dr Who for 8 years and a while people got sick of him and wanted him to go. This way people would remember David's venture as the doctor fondly, rather than think "oh, well he was good at the beginning"

Hes acting, so being a fan of doctor who has no part in it, remember how the doctor had said that "everything" about him changes even beyond the physical, his loves and hates change, he is happy how he is, he will probably not love rose any more etc etc

For me, 2nd to 3rd is the most traumatizing. It's not just that Patrick Troughton's Doctor (one of my favorites, next to William Hartnell) is forced to regenerate as a kind of punishment, but what happens with his companions is just crappy.

Totally. I think maybe he felt he had to go on ( as an actor) but that hit me hard too- totally had tears. the end 1/4 of the 2 part family of blood did the same. having a chance for love but bot being able to... his acting was amazing

Lol but the 11th doctor doesnt die he's in a robot with other people and river (young) is forced to kill the robot him then later comes out of the robot suit and all is well

5 to 6 is pretty traumatizing too. Though part of that is what appears.... I really haven't liked either of the new who regenerations yet, they try to make it over dramatic.
