Will this help for lateral torticollis?
Qyshia Icykyusyaz
What about using weights? I have been strength training for a couple of month's now. and I was thinking about using some light weights to start strengthening those rear neck muscles. I'd like to know what you think please...

I have had subluxation and forward shift, consequent fusion. Neck has been fixed in forward shift for 35 years. Will it work?
Rosemary Nolan
Not a bad suggestion but for some people with severe forward head posture, the joints have become fixed and often it would be extremely uncomfortable to sleep without a pillow. This could be helpful for mild forward head, but you need a pillow under the knees to give you back less stress. Good suggestion, thanks.

Sleep on your back without a pillow should fix this

My head does not touch the wall easily. I have a slight lower back scoliosis. Any suggestions for the wall exercise to relieve the lower back tension?

Thanks anthony, I'm glad you are enjoying!

I love your sincerity--it comes through in a great way. Teaching folks to engage the deep anterior flexor/stabilizers of the neck is one of my "missions" and seems to facilitate the relaxation of those other muscles that had been "pressed into service", e.g. upper traps, scalenes, levator scap, etc.

Much appreciated - great explanations !

Hi, I watched your video and I have some quastions. I thouht that I have advanced forward head, but it turns out that i don't (when standing to wall my head touches it (don't have to move it back)), Can young men have dowager's hump?

Good clear description of the problem, but not a helpful path to follow IMO. Pulling one's head into a different position is just adding another layer of tension, and the long-held habitual muscle tension pulling the head forward will always win out in the end. You need to learn to *release* the habitual muscle pulls - slow and steady but it will change things more effectively. An Alexander Technique teacher will help you. perhaps after chiropractic treatment to free up the joints.

Most common question and no easy answer. It depends on many things: your overall fitness level, your nutrition, whether you have any wear in the joints, has severe the posture is and how long it has been there. On average to start seeing results at least 6 months but often you feel results much sooner. Thanks for watching!

Does this really work? How long until results are seen?

Hi Rob, that means that the forward head posture is quite advanced likely. I'd then start with some treatment from your health care practitioner like your doctor, chiropractor, physio etc.

My head won't reach against the wall :-(

Thanks for your advice. I have been doing your exercises and so far I feel great holding my head higher to where it actually should be. I will keep doing them everyday and give an update on my progress. Thank you!

Hello thanks for your message - well if other people have noticed I'd say that warrants an examination. You should probably have your spine examined by a qualified health care professional and if the posture is outside of the acceptable range of 'normal' an xray may well be appropriate. This would certainly show the underlying cause of the incorrect alignment in this area. Let me know how you get on.

Hello! Thanks for the video it was well needed. I have this awful looking "buffalo's hump" on my upper back. I think that it may be posture related or just fat from gaining a bit of weight. But I feel it is so unattractive that even my husband notices it and has asked me about it. I was wondering if there was anything else that I could do to minimize this awful looking hump.

Your welcome. But I don't think you quite understand what they mean sorry!

Hi Dr. Moore, I have a forward head posture and my chiropractor recommends an orthotic. (Also have pronating feet.) However, I did the wall neck exercise keeping my chin tucked as I went back and forth. Can really feel muslces I haven't really worked, work. I've also balanced my head off a flat surface keeping my chin tucked and holding the position. Going to do the neck exercise everyday now as I'm feeling the results. Much appreciated for the free advice.

Thanks so much for watching!

Wise words indeed. I believe in supporting vs absolute teaching - I like to help people help themselves. Well put, thank you.

You are so right - I definitely have no certainty about anything in life! Hippocrates has been using spinal manipulation since 460BC and so I lean towards his 'medicine'. I rate Pilates and Alexander Tecnhnique (and many others) but these exercise 'techniques' must never take the place of a health care practitioner but they are excellent in association with and so I often refer clients to use. Thanks for your interesting insights.

But you have no certainty of the underlying nature of habit! FM Alexander and John Dewey explained all of this over a century ago!

This video is awsome I've wanted to know how to correct my posture but didn't know where to look or what to look for. You explain it really well and with humour, love it, I've subscribed
