Viv3147 , perhaps you are refering to the Metropolitan Opera . Belcanto operas such as Bellini's were sung in smaller theatres . In Florence Italy , they are more likely performed at Teatro della Pergola , not at the much larger Teatro Comunale .

The truth is, I saw him in Armida at the met at was sitting just past the orchestra seats. Armida has 6 Tenors and it seemed to me like 4 of them were cast specifically because they werent nearly on the level of Brownlee, but all had bigger voices. The one thing I didn't really like was that his high notes are so effortless that after you hear him sing 20 high bs and 10 high cs and then go above it, the high notes stop being so impressive and get boring, but thats Rossini, not Brownle

Anyone who criticises this because they like another singer is stupid for doing so! Yes, there is another great singer out there who can also sing this rep. Mr Brownlee is also brilliant... Why are so many opera 'lovers' so full of hate??? This is beautiful singing...

Siento que Brownlee canta natural copn un fiatto envidiable y una coloratura bellisima, a mi juicio, No lo comparo con J.D. Florez hay diferencias marcadas, pero, me parece que Brownlee lleva las de ganar, por lo menos aqui.-

Yes indeed. I love the warm tone. It is a much plusher sound than Florez, yet, he still has thrilling high notes! Bravo Lawrence!!!!

Brownlee is quite good here, and comments to the contrary are possibly from ones not wise enough or learned enough to comment. He has minor issues with the 'T's and E's which he tends to sing as an 'aay' sound, but those can be cleaned up. Demonstrate excellent vocals in what is a 'Beastly' aria/ensemble.

It is a musical form first and I would rather see him in this rep than someone with better stage presence and less voice. There are just people out there that can do all of the above i.e. bruce ford and thats what I look for in superstars.

You seriously suck and are the reason why opera is so bad these days. We have people who have the looks part of the package and can't sing a lick. It's a MUSICAL form first. Jeez.

He is very very good all right. Not quite as "lyrical" as Pavarotti at that age, if you understand me. It may just be a familiarity with the language issue.

I just saw him "live" on the met HD broadcast of Cenerentola and can say this - he is not a gifted actor, but he gets the job done nicely, and his acting is in his face. He has wonderful vocal production and is a model singer for students, pronouncing every vowel and consonant distinctly and with commitment.

I totally agree and one cannot help but compare him with today's superstartenor, Florez - and to me, in many ways I prefer Brownlee exactly because he is not nasal at all. Rowna
